Can I shorten the chain on a cuckoo clock?

Today I got the kind where you have to pull the chain when the pinecone weights have dropped, the chain is inconveniently long, If I cut or clip it to about half the size (adding new stoppers) -will that just mean I need to reset it that much more often?

    For an day run if you will have to reset them you will have to reset them you shorten them at shorter interval.
