asked:

“In Italy for thirty years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love; they had five hundred years of democracy and peace and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.”

- Orson Welles

Don’t we need to remain a dynamic society in order to remain free and competitive?

Yes. I think that struggle does lead to greatness. This does not mean that I support capitalism or any other over-civilised and ordered system.

I agree with you. I think it comes down to what sort of life you want to lead. Do you want to be free to starve or become a millionaire? Or do you want to have a secured life, but be unable to express yourself?

I doubt do-gooders will ever be able to control every aspect of society, so you need not worry.

Comparing artists to an invention is not a fair contrast.
